Explosion in Perry County near Hazard, Ky. - UFO ?
From the Hazard Herald newspaper
Mystery of weekend explosion deepens
Was it a blast from a build-up of methane in an abandoned mine? A meteorite slamming into the hillside? A UFO perhaps?
All of the above were floated as possible causes of an apparent explosion followed by a massive fireball and plume of smoke that were seen rising in the air above Hazard. So far, however implausible it may seem, officials have been unable to say for certain that anything happened.
But if one thing is for certain for a number of people living at Woodland Park, in Lothair and in Upper Section Creek, something happened on the night of December 11.
But what?
That’s the question, it seems, that all of Perry County is trying to answer, and for good reason.
Despite the fact that so far no injuries have been reported, any explosion that causes windows to shake in houses in the next valley over needs to be officially verified and a cause determined. That officials were unable to verify what several people witnessed or heard is in some ways disconcerting.
The incident drew enough attention that rescue crews spent hours in freezing temperatures searching for something, anything that could explain what many people saw or heard. So far, it has been to no avail.
According to sources, reports of the incident differ in a variety of ways. One report was made with officials Sunday night that something was seen exploding in the sky before crash landing near Hazard. Residents living in Woodland Park and Lothair said whatever happened was strong enough that is could be felt inside their homes. Others unofficially (code word for “on the Internet”) reported seeing the contrails from a plane that crashed into the hillside.
But one thing about all of these reports that does not deviate: all of them contain a report of some sort of explosion.
Whether this explosion was the result of the ignition of gas inside an old mine shaft or something more extra terrestrial in nature remains to be seen, and for now the mystery deepens. Frankly, while it’s almost certainly not the case, we’re hoping for the latter. If anyone’s going to confirm the existence of life outside of this planet, why not do it right here in Perry County?
